Single review: Yellow Phone - Muddy Elephant
Just 6 weeks after the release of their single “18”, Muddy Elephant have yet another new single, titled Yellow Phone, out on Friday 26th July 2024.

Yellow Phone is an indie pop/rock song which wraps sad lyrics into a happy melody and tempo. It addresses the reality of someone feeling lonely, seeking validation through an interaction in a mobile application. When that interaction doesn’t come (possibly with a time limit of a few seconds), the impatience triggers desperate moves like texting at inappropriate times.
If you don’t notice the lyrics, you will find the song rather fun. Singing those lyrics with that tempo and melody, is probably a way of just accepting the reality and being OK about it. The song is catchy and the lyrics are easy to pick up and start singing. It should be a great addition to their set list, as it has the elements to be a hit in live shows. The repeated “na na na na na naa na” in the chorous can get the crowd to join in, making it sound almost like a football chant.
Yellow for sadness?
What is it with Indie Rock bands and Yellow in the song title? From Yellow Lines by The Ariston, to Yellow Cars by Entropy, now Yellow Phone by Muddy Elephant. All three of those songs have sad meanings. Is yellow the new colour of sadness?
